Fake Sunflower Real Sky HDR -Single Raw
->
I’ve been looking for a good subject to shoot raw, play around with in CS2 making different exposures and combining into an hdr that is tone mapped, using photomatix. This is my first attempt. I have virtually no experience working with raw photos. I did have a jpeg shot for comparison to help me out. I shot this in front of Lunetta’s Restaurant during the Italian Festival.

It's amazing & very different. But the Photoshop is overdone. Instead of making my decision now, I'll wait until 5 or 6 people make their votes then I'll jump on the bandwagon. That's how it works right?

Looks weirde. Too much processed and have fail in preserving some natural aspects. Why? Because the overall lightening have been modified here (Both shadows and light must be preserved to the same proportions).

Chris&Oli, obviously I wasn't going for a natural look here. Just trying to make something interesting. Thanks for the feedback. I like the way the illumination from behind played out in the processing.

Hey, another Upstate NY Deleteme Member!
I think you will find that DMU isnt very friendly (in general) towards HDR photos. However I like the treatment here. The details and almost illustration-like quality of the flowers is great. My only complaint is the sky. A bit too much black up there (heh, even for upstate NY). I might have reduced the HDR treatment in the sky.

Thanks BigFrank, I'm still a rookie when it comes to hdr and a lot of things in photoshop, I was mainly concentrating on the flowers.

I like HDR photos, and I like pictures of sunflowers, but this photo has very little contrast. Gotta have contrast.

I know what Mike is attempting here, only cuz he is trying hard to learn from his master, LOL ;)
I think you're getting there, Mike... good for you for trying. And yes, maybe not so good to post in a 'Delete Me' group right away, they can be a bit harsh on first experiments.
I love the sunflowers, but I do think the sky is a bit dark. Some masking and adjusting in PS will make this image a real beauty, so don't be discouraged by what is said above. I'd say work on it a bit more, then re-post it...

A great deal of effort went into this but I still can't like it, the sunflowers on the left really bug me and I think you have managed to keep in the dirt on the sensor or whatever it was above the flower.

Thanks everyone for the brutal honesty, on a positive note I will take the constructive criticism that was offered and apply it to my developing hdr skills.

Hey mike, maybe not much appreciated by the HDR lovers here. But i do think this one is very creative and fascinating in a way. I'm not a big HDR fan myself so maybe that's why i look different at it. The first thought that instantly came to mind when i saw this was Van Gogh! Just like Donsmokem also wrote.
It's the swirly looking sky and wild flowers that made me think of Van Gogh's paint strokes and colors. Although you got completely slammed here by the HDR people, i think this is a fantastic shot from an artistic point of view.
This is one of the things that came to mind:

Thanks Ed, like I said in my earlier comment I wasn't going for realism. That is pretty clear. Perhaps I should change the title to "Surreal Sunflowers".

someone missed "delete3" so my pic is still here, either give me 9 "saves" or the final "delete" so I can try again ;)
