Bush Gets Bashed at the Grammy Awards

If I remember correctly, there once was a day when the Grammy Awards were about music.  Apparently politics is the number one priority now.  Bush was bashed by the voters in November, now he was bashed at the Grammy Awards by the Dixie Chicks.

LOS ANGELES - The Dixie Chicks completed a defiant comeback on Sunday night, winning five Grammy awards after being shunned by the country music establishment over the group’s anti-Bush comments leading up to the Iraq invasion.

I have nothing against the Dixie Chicks, in fact, I agree with their anti-war stance.  What I don’t understand is how James Blunt walked away empty handed, even with 5 Grammy nominations, a wildly successful first album and sold out concerts everywhere.

My other beef with the Grammy Awards is the sheer number of categories, there were 108 this year.  About the only group not represented was pop male vocalists accompanied by a kazoo played blindfolded.

In summary, the Grammy Awards are too political and too politically correct.  Thank God I was able to watch myriad ways to cook with chocolate on the Food Network.

I never heard a song by the Dixie Chicks and when a song like Your Beautiful is beaten for purely political purposes, then it is time to stop watching the Grammies. These people are entertainors and that is what they are paid to do. My opinion is worth as much as any of theirs.

Well, the Grammy Awards have reached a new low point with the political statements they made last night. I didn’t watch the 108 awards, but I read the highlights this morning. It appears the awards were based more on political statement than talent and the news coverage is all focused on one group even though there were others who won multiple awards. I suppose there will continue to be differing opinions about the war, the president, etc., during the upcoming election year. And in November we will have a chance to vote those views. When do we get a chance to vote on the politics of the Grammys? Every year–with our remote control. I voted this year and my vote will be the same next year. There are 200 channels available on my television, I’ll be watching one of the other 199.

Well Chicks and Hanoi Jane did another number on somebody. While they were off fornicating the canine managed to turn a “musical award?” show into a political bunch of crap. Enough said,I’m pissed!!!!

what a joke. oh well, who is surprised? real talent gets ignored, bush bashing wins the prize. may the three stooges, oops i mean chicks, reign in chaos.

  5. 5Jim on Feb 12, 2007 at 9:30 am:

FYI, the chicks, or two chicks and a chunk, haven’t sold out their concerts. They’ve even cancelled many venues due to poor sales. Given that few country stations will play their music and that they’re despised in Nashville for their anti C&W comments, how did they win album of the year? Maines was classy, as usual…

does anybody really watch the crammy Crammy awards anyway?

its about time tose whinney holly er than thou country stars and fans get thiers…

  8. 8Kelsey on Feb 12, 2007 at 10:27 am:

I think saying that the Chicks won for purely political reasons is ridiculous; they are truly talented performers. While they may not be selling out huge venues or receiving airplay on country radio, they are still creating some great music. Their album was critically acclaimed and went two times platinum. That combination of critical and commercial success is a big part of what determines a Grammy winner. Now, I’m not saying that their politics had nothing to do with their five Grammy wins, but I think that saying they are completely talentless and that they only won because of their political stance is wrong. It’s unfortunate that former fans have written off the Chicks’ because they don’t agree with their actions. Their politics do not have anything to do with the quality of their music.

It is absolutely ridiculous that the Chicks won any awards much less beat out Justin Timberlake. Oh please, another ploy by the press to Bush bash on Tv and get away with it. I for one and every one I know will never listen to anything Dippy Chicks release or perform on. They are anti-American and should be ashamed of themselves. What a joke never again do I watch these political shows run by liberal idiots.

“pop male vocalists accompanied by a kazoo played blindfolded”

    Hee hee!

    Looks political to me…

  12. 12who cares on Feb 12, 2007 at 12:16 pm:

Actually Bush was never mentioned. If you think James Blunt is “real talent” in comparison to the Dixie Chicks, then obviously you’ve never heard anything about them. Each of them are talented multi-instrumentalists with strictly bluegrass backgrounds. I’m glad they actually won for their music instead of losing for their political beliefs. And if you are going to bash an award show, learn how to spell it. The show is called the “Grammy Awards”…not “Grammies.” I don’t see any multiple Grandmothers here.

Also, the Dixie Chicks weren’t the only people to win several awards, so stop looking for excuses to make everything political. You don’t see me throwing a fit because Ludacris mentioned Bill O’Reilly.

  13. 13cathy g on Feb 12, 2007 at 12:25 pm:

It’s a free country. People have a right to voice their opions. I have the right to disagree & never purchase or watch anything that has anything to do with them.
I didn’t watch the awards because of the trashing of the President previously by the Dixie morons. The statement made by the little fat one was stupid. The other two seem dim witted and just follow her.

I TOTALLY AGREE WITH CATHY G. COULD’T PUT IT BETTER MYSELF!!!

Fatass Natalie , the Communist Dixie Chick
better be careful someone doesnt assinate her at one of her tour stops down South .. She is pretty hated with her comments and smart mouth …

  16. 16walt scott on Feb 12, 2007 at 12:58 pm:

It’s great to hear some of these people complain about politics at the grammys. Aren’t you the ones that boycotted the d chicks in the first place over politics. dah. They won because they have talent, not because they are someones son. Have you ever heard of book burning. Look it up. That’s what you did.

  17. 17Rosie on Feb 12, 2007 at 1:02 pm:

It does not matter how many undeserved awards these women got. That fact would not make them talented nor would make people buy their CD’s or go to their concerts. What a disrespect to the other talented nominees! I give the grammys a thumb WAYYYYYYYYYY DOWM! Support musical talent not political views.
    What a disgrace…

  18. 18Annie CH on Feb 13, 2007 at 3:37 am:

Dixie Chicks - DITZIE TWITS is a better name. When the Grammy Awards becomes so BLUE and political that deserving artist were passes over for Hollywood’s version of celebrity Presidential bashing. Shame on you. Well deserving artist were passed over because of the Hollywood state of mind, or what we simple folk call -demintia!

People that did attend their concerts want to hear their music, it is entertainment, not political rhetoric! I wouldn’t pay for their political views, nor do most country and western fans want to be subjected to their biased rhetoric.

I’m from Texas, and they are an embarrassment to our Southern culture and views. My grandmother would have said … those girls need a good spanking and their mouths washed out with soap.

They live in the land of the free and the home of the brave because brave and courageous men and women choose to protect our rights. They misuse and abuse true Americans and spit on all that’s good in our society. What leaches! Hollywood and the Ditzie Twits should be ashamed, but they have such white trash values, they don’t know better. The media should know better and cease to promote such filth and disrespect

  19. 19Martia on Feb 13, 2007 at 11:06 am:

I think the Dixie Chicks keep digging a deeper hole for them to crawl in, the way they talk about country fan’s. Those fans help them to reach sucess and by not going to there concerts and buying there music they can also help them to fall into the hole they dug for there self much sooner.
There was so many more talented performers
    that should have won.

Regardless of their political views (which do not belong at the Grammy’s) they did not deserve to win. So much talent out there and The Dixie Chicks take home five awards?!?!? I don’t get. I totally agree with you Annie CH.
