The Fed is the Problem, Not the Solution

There has been a lot of talk in the news recently about the Federal Reserve and the actions it has taken over the past few months. Many media pundits have been bending over backwards to praise the Fed for supposedly restoring stability to the market. This interpretation of the Fed’s actions couldn’t be further from the truth.

The current market crisis began because of Federal Reserve monetary policy during the early 2000s in which the Fed lowered the interest rate to a below-market rate. The artificially low rates led to overinvestment in housing and other malinvestments. When the first indications of market trouble began back in August of 2007, instead of holding back and allowing bad decision-makers to suffer the consequences of their actions, the Federal Reserve took aggressive, inflationary action to ensure that large Wall Street firms would not lose money. It began by lowering the discount rates, the rates of interest charged to banks who borrow directly from the Fed, and lengthening the terms of such loans. This eliminated much of the stigma from discount window borrowing and enabled troubled banks to come to the Fed directly for funding, pay only a slightly higher interest rate but also secure these loans for a period longer than just overnight.

After the massive increase in discount window lending proved to be ineffective, the Fed became more and more creative with its funding arrangements. It has since created the Term Auction Facility (TAF), the Primary Dealer Credit Facility (PDCF), and the Term Securities Lending Facility (TSLF). The upshot of all of these new programs is that through auctions of securities or through deposits of collateral, the Fed is pushing hundreds of billions of dollars of funding into the financial system in a misguided attempt to shore up the stability of the system.

The PDCF in particular is a departure from the established pattern of Fed intervention because it targets the primary dealers, the largest investment banks who purchase government securities directly from the New York Fed. These banks have never before been allowed to borrow from the Fed, but thanks to the Fed Board of Governors, these investment banks can now receive loans from the Fed in exchange for securities which will in all likelihood soon lose much of their value.

The net effect of all this new funding has been to pump hundreds of billions of dollars into the financial system and bail out banks whose poor decision making should have caused them to go out of business. Instead of being forced to learn their lesson, these poor-performing banks are being rewarded for their financial mismanagement, and the ultimate cost of this bailout will fall on the American taxpayers. Already this new money flowing into the system is spurring talk of the next speculative bubble, possibly this time in commodities.

Worst of all, the Treasury Department has recently proposed that the Federal Reserve, which was responsible for the housing bubble and subprime crisis in the first place, be rewarded for all its intervention by being turned into a super-regulator. The Treasury foresees the Fed as the guarantor of market stability, with oversight over any financial institution that could pose a threat to the financial system. Rewarding poor performing financial institutions is bad enough, but rewarding the institution that enabled the current economic crisis is unconscionable.

This is so sad.  People are brainwashed all of their lives and are unable to take a critical look at all candidates.  It is also sad that people are so easily influenced by a self-serving career politician like Ted Kennedy.

“I was brought up pure Democrat — my dad was in politics for many, many years,” said Brian Ahern, 40, who works for the local redevelopment authority and was enjoying an afternoon pint of beer at the Big Apple Sports Palace on Broadway Street, Bayonne’s main drag. “When [Sen. Edward] Kennedy came out and endorsed Obama, that made a big impression on me. . . . I’m leaning towards him only because of that.”

Anyone claiming to be “pure Democrat” demonstrates that they are incapable or unwilling to logically evaluate the positions of all candidates.

It is a violation of our natural rights that the rest of us have our lives affected by the decision making (votes) of people like that.  Years of bending and breaking the Constitution have led to the sorry state of our country.

There is one candidate who values the Constitution, understands what equal opportunity means and respects the natural rights of all people.  That person is Ron Paul.  Tuesday voters across American will have a chance to vote for Ron Paul in the Republican Primary in many states.  If you are one of those people, please take the time to visit Dr. Ron Paul’s website and learn why he is the only candidate for President who is willing to fight for you, not the self-serving interests of the majority of our current politicians.

Worst Reason Yet for Voting for Obama

While listening to the news on WBEN this morning, I heard the worst reason yet for voting for Barack Obama.  A mother in South Carolina voted for Barack for her children.  She said, she’s always told her children that “you can be anything you want to be” and that Barack Obama shows that the statement is true.

I’m sure that Idi Amin and Adolf Hitler also believed that they could be anything they wanted to be.  Presidents need to be elected based on ideas and qualifications, not race or gender.

Well, I can tell you this, the Ron Paul supporters in general will not be voting for any other candidate.  Once people have had a taste of freedom and liberty, they cannot go back.  Only a smattering of Ron Paul supporters would be caught dead voting for another Republican.  It would be really interesting to see what would happen if he did decide to make a third party bid. 

Sadly, it has become clear that without a fair shake in the media, it is really difficult to make a realistic run for the White House.  On a very unscientific survey of anecdotal evidence (something that seems to be just as reliable as the polling methods these days that all but inaugurated Obama in New Hampshire) I have found that roughly 90% of the population has never heard Ron Paul’s message.  However, of those that hear the whole message, and not the twisted distorted filtered garbage the main stream media puts out, 80% become supporters.

Missing The Point!

The cost of necessities is going up, and families are feeling the squeeze.  The article ignores the one huge cost that affects us all and traps people in a dependent, poverty lifestyle — the high cost of government.

The American people are also responsible for the growth in government, however. We have allowed our constitutional republic to deteriorate into a virtually unchecked direct democracy. Today’s political process is nothing more than a street fight between various groups seeking to vote themselves other people’s money. Individual voters tend to support the candidate that promises them the most federal loot in whatever form, rather than the candidate who will uphold the rule of law. As the brilliant writer and professor Thomas Sowell said, “If you have been voting for politicians who promise to give you goodies at someone else’s expense, then you have no right to complain when they take your money and give it to someone else, including themselves.”

Ron Paul: Who Are These Kooks?

This should be required reading material before casting a ballot in a primary or general election.

So, who are these “kooks” who are sending Ron Paul so much money? And just why are they sending him so much money? I will tell you who they are, because I am one of them. They are rank-and-file, tax-paying citizens who are sick and tired of out-of-control federal spending and deficits. They have had it with an arrogant federal government that runs roughshod over both the Constitution and the liberties of the American people. They are people who have had enough of the IRS, the BATFE, and a thousand other federal agencies that have “erected a multitude of New Offices, and sent hither swarms of Officers to harass our people, and eat out their substance.” (Declaration of Independence)

They are people who see through the phony, disingenuous federal politicians who only want to fleece the American citizenry for the purpose of building their own personal fortunes. They have had it with the Military-Industrial complex that desires to build international empires at the expense of the blood and sacrifice of the American people. They have had it with David Rockefeller and his Council on Foreign Relations. They have had it with the arrogance of George W. Bush and Nancy Pelosi.

Ron Paul Supporters Put Money Where Their Mouths Are

Ron Paul’s campaign isn’t just lip service.  Many people have contributed to his campaign and now many people are wagering that he has a good chance to win.

It was only two weeks ago that 2008 Presidential candidate Ron Paul was listed at Sportsbook.com with odds of 200 to 1.  In fact, early in the month he was not even offered on the political betting menu.  My how things have changed in the past month.

Carrie Stroup here with some startling news concerning Ron Paul.  Sportsbook.com (see website here) had experienced such a dramatically insurgence of betting action on Mr. Paul over the past two weeks they were forced to slash odds from 200 to 1 to the current 15 to 1 odds.

People, this is common sense, it is easy and it will give you real opportunities to improve your life!  Why are people so resistant?  Why do people continuously look toward the government, and its failing programs, for an answer?

If someone wants to cut hair to earn a living, why should they need all kinds of licensing from the government?  The worst thing you would end up with is a bad haircut.  Are people that stupid that they would continue patronizing someone who doesn’t know what they are doing?

The answer is out there and he is running for President as a Republican.

It is long past the time to reevaluate our present government and to turn the tide of the status quo.  The road we are traveling leads to one destination, and one destination only — Economic Ruin!

There are two options to restore a Constitutional Government that would protect the rights of individuals and provide true opportunities for all.  The first is an outright overthrow, read revolution, of our government.  The second method would be to support the only candidate currently running for President who consistently pursues the end of the current warfare/welfare state in which we live.

The time is now to send a message to Washington, and the rest of the country.  Give yourself the gifts of Freedom and Opportunity this Christmas by studying and supporting Ron Paul for President.

Questionable Presidential Polls

I received the following email today containing some very good questions about the Presidential race.  Saying that the mainstream media has been marginalizing Ron Paul is an understatement.  Read the following observations and draw your own conclusion.  The full text of the email is after the jump.

  • If Huckabee is so well loved, why is no one donating to his campaign? People know these candidates need money to run an effective campaign. I guess Brother Huck’s supporters will pray on it!
  • If Romney is so popular, why does he have to reach into his deep pockets and loan his own campaign $17 MILLION bux? Where are the donations from the little people?
  • How is it John McCain shows higher in polls than Ron Paul, but no one will support him with the cash a candidate needs?
  • If Fred Thompson is so popular as to be right up there with Rudy Julie Annie and Huckabee, why is it Ron Paul beats him in straw polls 32-15? Remember: These are Republican voters.
  • How can Ron Paul continue to win all these straw polls by Republican voters, yet polls show no one would vote for him?
  • How is it Ron Paul continues to raise so much money if no one except the “fringe” element out there supports him?
  • Why does Ron Paul’s web site and his campaign show such popularity and numbers?
