“Before a standing army can rule, the people must be disarmed; as they are in almost every kingdom of Europe. The supreme power in America cannot enforce unjust laws by the sword; because the whole body of the people are armed, and constitute a force superior to any bands of regular troops that can be, on any pretense, raised in the United States.”
-Noah Webster, An Examination into the Leading Principles of the federal Constitution (1787) in Pamphlets to the Constitution of the United States (P. Ford, 1888).

I really didn’t want to say that, but it is true and it is reality. On April 6 Business First published an article that made it look like we were experiencing a resurgence in private sector employment. I dug into Census and Labor Department figures, and pointed out on April 8, that actual private-sector job losses have been occurring over the previous 10 year period. Today Business First published an article that is closer to reality.
The Buffalo-Niagara Falls metropolitan area added just 500 private-sector jobs in the past year, a rate that matches all of New York state and the nation.
March employment figures released Thursday by the state Department of Labor show the area picked up 3,500 total jobs compared to 2006, an increase of 0.6 percent. The vast majority — 3,000 — were classified as public-sector jobs.
Government funded development (corporate welfare) and public-sector jobs are not going to revive our economy. People need to accept the fact that the only road that will lead to improvement combines drastically cutting the size and scope of government with lower taxes. Every single dollar taken from us as taxes and spent by the government is negative growth. Real jobs and real growth only occur as a result of investment by private individuals and businesses. 6 out of every 7 jobs being added are being funded by the taxpayers; that doesn’t work!
The solution is simple yet people refuse to accept the truth and refuse to insist that our legislators do the job that needs to be done. Everyone is brainwashed with the good government and entitlement mentality, mindlessly following the road to ruin.
There is a group in the Buffalo area that is working to right-size the top heavy government that hangs around our necks strangling us slowly day by day. That group is Free Buffalo/Free New York, Inc.

The federal government does not have the power to set a national drinking age. Despite that, every state’s drinking age currently is 21. This is a result of the feds, under Ronald Reagan, skirting the law by blackmailing States using federal highway funds.
MADD managed to get inside Reagan’s head to further their misguided agenda to prevent drunk driving deaths among young people. While the cause is noble, the method is ineffective and quite possibly contributing to more deaths.
McCardell, 57, president emeritus of Middlebury College in Vermont and professor of history there, says alcohol is and always will be “a reality in the lives of 18-, 19- and 20-year-olds.” Studies indicate that the number of college students who drink is slightly smaller than it was 10 years ago, largely because of increased interest in healthy living. But in the majority who choose to drink, there have been increases of “binge drinking” and other excesses. Hospitalizations of 18- to 20-year-olds for alcohol poisoning have risen in those 10 years.
This, McCardell believes, is partly because the drinking age of 21 has moved drinking to settings away from parental instruction and supervision. Among college students, drinking has gone “off campus and underground,” increasing risks while decreasing institutions’ abilities to manage the risks.
Although all 50 states ban drinking by persons under 21, technically there is no national drinking age. Each state has a right to set a lower age — more than half had lower age limits in the 1970s — but doing so will cost it 10 percent of its federal highway funds and cause significant uproar from contractors and construction unions.

This is a very good article that relates to many problems faced in our country today. Take 2 minutes to click the link and read it all.
So many Americans graduate high school and college having learned what to think as opposed to acquiring the tools of critical, independent thinking. Likewise, they have learned little about our nation’s history. As such, they fall prey to the rhetoric of political charlatans and quacks. Let’s look at a couple of examples.

It is not Six Flags anymore but it is still Darien Lake. Warmer weather is finally here and the amusement park will be opening in 16 days. The Superman is no more but you can still ride the Ride of Steel.
The good news is that parking, food and beer will be cheaper this year. For more information go to www.godarienlake.com. If you’re looking for a job, you can go to www.darienlakejobs.com or call (585)599-5108. See you there!
