Fred Thompson is testing the support of the neocon war mongering voters as he ponders a presidential bid. This delusional lot either refuses to acknowledge that many years of U.S. foreign intervention has resulted in the current state of the world, or, they are just plain stupid!
It is critical that we see this incident as part of a long pattern of behavior — that will continue as long as the current leadership is in power. More importantly, it will escalate unimaginably if Iran achieves nuclear status, and with it the ability to hold millions rather than individuals hostage.
Any neocon worth is weight in dead bodies plays the fear-mongering game and Thompson doesn’t disappoint with this bit of speculation:
I have no idea if Ahmadinejad and those who put him in power really believe the Shi’a Twelver doctrine that they can spur the messiah to return by triggering Armageddon. You have to admit, though, that the possibility that they look forward to entering paradise as martyrs would make them a whole lot scarier as a nuclear power than the USSR ever was.
Fred, if you like to play with guns, stick to roles like you had in Law & Order, it doesn’t require any credibility.
The similarity is nauseating.

10 Reasons (Besides Howard Stern) Why Sanjaya’s Still On ‘Idol’
Reason Number 1:
Every Season Has One: From Ryan Starr and Nikki McKibbin during season one to Julia DeMato (season two), John Stevens (season three), Mikalah Gordon (season four) and Kevin “Chicken Little” Covais (season five), it seems like every year, one marginally talented singer manages to make it to the finals. Personality counts — but it only gets you so far, and if elimination history is any indication, it’ll probably only buy Sanjaya a few more weeks at best.
Personally, I believe this is the type of television that rots your mind. I would much rather be reading a good book or engaging in some other kind of brain stimulating activity. I did catch part of the “mohawk” episode, only because the TV was providing background noise while I was working on other things.

The Buffalo Sabres’ 2-0 shutout of the Washington Capitals clinched the Presidents’ Trophy. While Detroit creamed Chicago 7-2 and is tied in points with Buffalo, the Sabres have more wins. Buffalo still has one game to go tomorrow, against the Flyers, but Detroit has wrapped up their regular season.
The Sabres’ franchise-record 53rd win was enough to lock up the team’s first Presidents’ Trophy title and home-ice advantage throughout the Stanley Cup playoffs that begin next week. Buffalo will wrap up the regular season Sunday at Philadelphia.
As a bonus, Tim Connolly scored a goal in his first game back since sustaining a concussion in last year’s playoffs.

And PETA hath respondeth. Geez, don’t these people have a life? With all the problems in this country, chicken farming does not even make my list of the top 100 things that should be addressed.
This weekend, animals rights group People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) will distribute leaflets at Louisville churches that encourage Christians to boycott fast-food chicken restaurant chain KFC Corp.
The leaflets depict Pope Benedict XVI and the tagline “Boycott KFC,” along with quotes from the Pope that “decry factory-farming abuses,” according to a news release from PETA.
Pope Benedict XVI had condemned the type of factory-farming abuses KFC’s suppliers commit against animals, saying that “this degrading of living creatures to a commodity seems to me in fact to contradict the relationship of mutuality that comes across in the Bible.”

This would certainly be an attractive option for people not wanting to shell out $249+ for an iPod.
Microsoft Corp. is pondering new strategies to help gain market share against Apple Inc.’s iPods, including offering its Zune music player nearly free to customers who subscribe to its music service.
Currently, Zune Media Players, with a 30GB storage capacity, are selling for $219.99 on Amazon. A 30GB iPod can be purchased for $249 through Apple’s education discount program.
