Socialism and Collectivism

Ray has a great post on The New Liberty blog.  He discuses George Bernard Shaw’s views on socialism and how to covertly convert people to the socialist’s cause.

“The word socialism was not to be used. Instead, they would speak of benefits for the people such as welfare, medical care, higher wages, and better working conditions.” It’s unmistakable that similar methods are used in American politics today that mimic the Fabian method of remolding the socio-economic landscape.

This is exactly what is ruining America today.  People are so brainwashed by propaganda that they don’t even realize they are advocating socialist solutions.  The result is spiraling costs, especially for health care, and the loss of individual freedom.  It is the driving force behind the ever increasing size of government and out of control taxation and spending.  The only government program that would successfully combat these problems would be a program of eliminating the vast majority of government agencies.

Interventionist Policy - Wrong Again!

The only conclusion I can draw from our screwed up foreign policy is that the military-industrial complex has more influence than anyone or anything else.

Ethiopia’s invasion of Somalia under cover of the Christmas holiday was a blatant aggression that is likely to widen the arc of conflict across the dangerously turbulent Horn of Africa. It also marks the opening of a new front in Washington’s war against Islamic militants and reformers.

Claims by Ethiopia that Somalia, a nation without any real military forces, threatened its border were as fanciful as assertions by Washington and Addis Ababa that the so-called “transitional government” they had installed in the town of Baidoa represented anything more than its own well-paid members.

The US-backed and financed Ethiopian offensive was clearly designed to crush the first stable government strife-torn Somalia has had in 15 years of civil war and anarchy. The new Islamic regime, known as the Union of Islamic Courts (UIC), recently managed to bring law and order to much of southern and central Somalia. In the north, a secessionist group has proclaimed something called independent “Puntland.”

The Union of Islamic Courts ended Somalia’s long civil war by crushing local warlords who were being armed and financed by the CIA. The US claims the Islamic Courts is a second Taliban-style movement containing “terrorists” involved in the 1998 bombings of US embassies in East Africa who will turn Somalia into a hotbed of anti-American subversion. The UIC denies these allegations.

I am sure the Nanny State is drooling over this report and the resultant possibility to legislate behavior.

In head-on car crashes, unbelted back-seat passengers not only risk injury or death to themselves, but also to the driver seated in front of them, according to University at Buffalo researchers.

Their “sled-test” studies simulating head-on crashes with crash-test dummies demonstrated the likelihood of severe head and chest trauma for driver and passenger caused by an unbelted passenger slamming into the seat of a belted driver.

“It doesn’t matter if it’s an adult-sized person seated behind you, a small child, or even if you have packages or luggage placed in the seat behind you, if they are not belted or safely secured, they can inflict fatal injuries to a driver,” said lead researcher James Mayrose, adjunct assistant professor of mechanical and aerospace engineering in UB’s School of Engineering and Applied Sciences.

Res Ipsa Loquitur

You’ve got to wonder about the intelligence of someone who would make poison meatballs to do in the neighbor’s dog.  I guess the fact that a frying pan with rat poison was found in the trash in front of the house speaks for itself.

A 55-year-old Cheektowaga woman faces charges of cooking up a lethal batch of meatballs mixed with rat poison and feeding it to a neighbor’s dog because she was upset about the animal’s barking.

The dog survived, and Charmaine Twarozek of Heather Road was arrested, Cheektowaga police confirmed Sunday.

“She’s charged with poisoning a dog and with cruelty to animals, misdemeanors under the agriculture and markets law,” Capt. John A. Glascott said. “We’ve seen disputes over barking dogs before, but it’s unusual to see it go this far.”

Twarozek was arrested Friday night after Officer James Jenson investigated a complaint filed by her neighbor Sue Anderson, the owner of a 1-year-old German shepherd mix named Roscoe. Police said Jenson found some incriminating evidence - a frying pan coated with remnants of ground beef and rat poison - in the trash in front of Twarozek’s house.
