Nichol will lose US$25,267.41 in salary. The money goes to the Players’ Emergency Assistance Fund.
“The punch by Mr. Nichol was deliberate, from behind, and it occurred after the referee’s whistle had stopped play,” NHL senior executive vice president of hockey operations Colin Campbell said. “While Mr. Spacek was injured and left the ice, it is expected he will be available to play in Buffalo’s next game.”

I think Nichol got off easy. He is fortunate that Nashville does not meet Buffalo again this season unless it is in the Stanley Cup Finals. This was clearly a case in which Nichol had the intent to injure Spacek. You don’t drop your gloves and blind-side a person unless you want to injure them.
