I have written to Everybody’s Column several times. When I write, it is about a subject that is important. I couldn’t help but laugh at one of the submissions today.
Buying a Playstation shouldn’t be so hard11/25/2006

The hysteria created by the new Sony Playstation 3, in my opinion, is every bit intentional, to create a media circus and advertising sensation. All it does is cause undue harm to people who want to purchase this item. If Sony and the stores got together, they could form a simple plan for consumers to be able to purchase these “must have first” items.Consumers who want these items could prepay for them. Then, when the items became available, they would receive a letter to bring to the store. This way, people don’t have to camp out for a week, and risk being mugged while waiting in line. If this item is truly worth the price, this would be a more civilized approach in today’s day and age of technology.
It sounds to me like the person writing that opinion must be a pure socialist advocating the regulation of Playstation sales. If that was the most important thing he had to write about, he needs a reality check regarding the real problems faced on a daily basis.

I was watching a cable news broadcast last night on Iraq. One of the foreign correspondents summed up the situation quite succinctly, noting that if Iraq isn’t experiencing a civil war now, he would hate to see what a real civil war looks like.
The violence has been escalating daily. The Iraqi government is ineffective. Our troops are ineffective. The Green zone isn’t even immune to violence and destruction anymore. Our top military leaders point out that even increasing troops would be ineffective because we can’t sustain a higher number of troops. Thank God for that!
I feel bad for the citizens of Iraq, they were much better off under Saddam Hussein. One of the citizens of Iraq made the following statement recently in her blog.
Iraq has not been this bad in decades. The occupation is a failure. The various pro-American, pro-Iranian Iraqi governments are failures. The new Iraqi army is a deadly joke.
That statement pretty much sums up the current situation in Iraq! The sooner we pull out the sooner the violence can run its course and the people of Iraq can hopefully return to some semblance of normalcy.

“The mayor is exhibiting a level of paranoia that certainly is without merit,” SanFilippo said. “If he has an issue as it relates to this appointment, I would welcome any dialogue that would address his concerns.”
From Friday’s Buffalo News article SanFilippo, Brown split over hiring of auditor.
If Byron Brown isn’t paranoid, it sounds like he must be hiding something.
Brown also raised concern about SanFilippo’s vow to tap McPherson’s legal expertise in instances where the comptroller and the city Law Department “don’t see eye to eye.”
“The Charter does not give him that authority,” Brown insisted. “I would be very concerned about him taking legal advice from anyone other than the corporation counsel.”
That would be the same corporation counsel that stated that residents who had paid the bogus $40 towing fee, tacked onto parking tickets, had waived their right to contest it. Byron had no problem with that legal opinion.
Brown acknowledged that the city Charter gives the comptroller flexibility on hires for the job, but the mayor said Tuesday that it is clear McPherson does not possess the financial background that his predecessors had.
After reading the job qualifications for the auditor’s job, I am quite convinced that attorney Darryl McPherson is more qualified for the position than the Mayor was when running for office.
