“I mistake the American people if they favor the odious doctrine that there is no such thing as international morality; that there is one law for a strong nation and another for a weak one.”
Interesting facts about Grover Cleveland:
• He is the only president to have been elected to two non-consecutive terms.
• During his term, the Statue of Liberty was unveiled in New York Harbor.
• Upon leaving in 1889, his wife told the White House staff to take care of the furniture because they would be back. She was correct.
• As Sheriff of Erie County, it was his duty to execute two criminals: one for killing his mother, another for shooting a man over a card game. Both men were hung.
• Public Service:
• Dates of Presidency: 3/4/1885 - 3/3/1889 & 3/4/1893 - 3/3/1897
• Presidency Number: 22 and 24
• Number of Terms: 2
• Why Presidency Ended: Defeated
• Party: Democratic
• His Vice President(s): Thomas Hendricks, Adalai Stevenson
• Governor of a State: New York (1883-1885)
• Other Offices: Sheriff of Erie County, NY; Mayor of Buffalo• Sheriff Cleveland personally looked into the quality of items purchased for his department. For example, a contractor who provided the wood for the jail reported the delivery of the usual one hundred cords. The Sheriff took up his tape measure, removed the crooked sticks, and discovered that the pile measured only eighty cords. He then ordered that the difference be made up.
• Cleveland answered the White House phone, personally.
The Baby Ruth candy bar was named after Cleveland’s baby daughter, Ruth.

Early Genesis has always been one of my favorite rock groups. Early is defined as their works up to and including The Lamb Lies Down on Broadway. Yes, I am dating myself now. My favorite Genesis album is Selling England by the Pound. The Musical Box, an acclaimed Genesis recreation group from Canada, will be performing Selling England by the Pound Saturday, October 14 at the Riviera Theater and I have tickets.
Genesis, in the good old days, included both Phil Collins and Peter Gabriel along with Steve Hackett, Tony Banks and Mike Rutherford.

The military-detention bill that President Bush pushed through Congress has some very disturbing ramifications. Federal Grand Jury indictments are no longer necessary for prosecution of terrorism cases. This nullifies habeas corpus and other procedural rights that date back to the Magna Carta. These criminal cases will be tried by the military, which is part of the executive branch, rather than the judicial branch. The right to a jury trial has been eliminated. Military personnel will decide guilt or innocence. The right to counsel has been limited. Eliminated are the rights to a speedy and public trial. People found guilty through this military process will be subject to cruel and unusual punishment.
“So what?”, you say, terrorists are foreigners and don’t deserve the protections of our constitution. That is where you are wrong, the law does not contain any language limiting the definition of “unlawful enemy combatants” to foreigners. The Bush administration, through the military, has already applied the term “unlawful enemy combatant” to one American citizen, Jose Padilla. There is nothing in the current law to stop Bush and the military from doing it again.

Update: Brian Higgins voted for this law.
Often implicit in the chats is an exchange of professional advancement in exchange for sex that plays on the allure of power that Foley used to entice one of the teenagers. Foley at one point promised to help him become the “stylish elite type” person the teenager said he wanted to be.
“We will make you successful,” Foley promised, “as long as you don’t mind me grabbing your [deleted] once in a while.”
That blurb from the Washington Post says it all. Mark Foley abused the power of his position as a congressman for sex, PERIOD! He did not abuse children, he is not a pedophile, but he betrayed the trust of the people he represents and violated ethical boundaries that should never have been crossed. He used his position to attain sexual gratification in return for promises of success.
