In case anyone has tried to browse my photo gallery page, I just noticed that a technical problem, between the plugin I used to create the page and Flickr, prevented the photos from displaying. All is fixed now. You can access the page at anytime through the page listing in the sidebar.

Today’s Buffalo News article suggests that Spitzer is too vague. Perhaps one could argue that he has identified the problems without the specifics for solving them. Below are some of Spitzer’s positions.
• Wants to put decisions about economic development grant-making in the hands of some sort of regional authorities.
• Understands the importance of lowering energy and health care costs for employers.
• Wants to reform the centers of excellence programs around the state, which he criticized as being “long on publicity, but too short on results.”
• Plans to provide seed money for start-up companies using funds from the state retirement system’s big investment portfolio.
• Wants to limit suburban sprawl upstate.
• Favors a major borrowing program to fund scientific research with commercial applications to boost upstate jobs.
The ideas may seem vague but they contain more than enough detail for me. If you look beyond the rhetoric what you see is a bunch of ideas with one common theme. More government! We are already living the results of too much government; high taxation, choking regulations, pork, patronage, unaccountability, etc . . .
It is time for politicians to step up to the plate and admit that government was never intended to be a cure-all for everything. It is time to reverse the trend and put our resources back in the control of private individuals. A free-market approach would operate on sound economic principles that lead to innovation and success. The government approach smothers innovation and consumes the wealth that would otherwise lead to an economic revival.

It was a fun night at the Central Terminal. Getting together with fellows bloggers and beer is a winning combination. The music and food are an extra bonus. One thing you can always count on with a group of bloggers is that no one is at a loss for words. My favorite brew of the evening was something from the Flying Bison Brewing Company. Next year I’ll have to take notes so I can remember the exact names of the various beers. You can read other recaps from Derek, Alan and Chris. Below are a few photos I took.
