Quote of the Day

“It was never the intent of the Framers to give the president such unfettered control, particularly where his actions blatantly disregard the parameters clearly enumerated in the Bill of Rights.”

Those are the written words of District Judge Anna Diggs Taylor in her 43 page opinion declaring President Bush’s wiretapping program unconstitutional.

I had to laugh when I heard Attorney General Gonzales being questioned on the court’s decision. His response was - “It was a highly effective program.” I’m sure it was, it is easy to be effective while ignoring the law. Everyday we are told to live our lives normally and not give in to the threat imposed by terrorism. Blatant disregard for the Constitution was the perfect example of the terrorists winning. As Benjamin Franklin once said, “Those who would give up Essential Liberty to purchase a little Temporary Safety, deserve neither Liberty nor Safety.”

Today’s court ruling was a victory for America and a defeat for the terrorists.
