Cindy Locklear, on her new blog, posts an excellent editorial written by one of the Charter Revision Committee members. The piece provides a crystal clear picture of what is wrong with WNY government and why the County Manager proposal was killed by Lynn Marinelli, et al.

Spitzer -

“I speak to reform, I speak to ethics, I speak to values, I speak to the moral vision of the great state of New York.”

This is the Eliot Spitzer that is out of control and will stop at nothing to force his moral vision on the State of New York. The problem was addressed quite eloquently in my previous post -

“When law and morality contradict each other, the citizen has the cruel alternative of either losing his moral sense or losing his respect for the law.”

The government should provide basic and necessary services that can not be provided by the private sector, PERIOD! Legislating morality is beyond the scope of good government.

Suozzi makes a critique of the current political system that employs critical thinking skills.

“Mr. Spitzer has embraced the status quo,” Suozzi said Tuesday. “You will simply be replacing a Republican with a Democratic governor who will tinker around the edges. We need wholesale reform … Both parties are rotten to the core. I will stand up to everyone I have to.”

Spitzer replies with a meaningless sound bite.

“You’ve compared me to all sorts of things,” Spitzer said. “You called me King George … and last time I looked, I didn’t try to tax your tea.”

10 seconds into the debate Suozzi made this statement -

“Eliot’s been in office for the past seven and a half years in Albany and he’s never really focused on government reform,” Suozzi, the Nassau County executive, said at the outset. “Instead he’s focused on Wall Street. … Now he’s embraced by all the politicians.”

The last thing New York needs is a Governor surrounded by the support of the status quo party bosses and the unions.
