BuffaloGeek has a good perspective on the latest poll numbers. I don’t understand how anyone of reasonable intelligence could compare the records of Eliot Spitzer and Tom Suozzi without reaching the conclusion that Suozzi is by far the better choice. Either people don’t read, don’t comprehend, don’t care or have a vested financial interest in seeing Spitzer in Albany.

UPDATE: Channel 2 has a new video online, watch it and see who looks very defensive.
The controversy over Maria Whyte running for committeeman in 9 districts continues to heat up. Maria is being supported by Len Lenihan and Sam Hoyt. Rumor on the street has it that Hoyt is anticipating an Eliot Spitzer victory which would further his political career. Apparently Hoyt is mentoring Whyte as his hand-picked successor if the opportunity arises. Naturally Lenihan is going to support Whyte since they are all tied into the Spitzer machine.
Channel 2 news posted the story here complete with a video link. I was told they have further updates on the story that appeared at 6pm this evening and should be on again at 11pm. For an informative look at the issue check out the Free New York Blog. Speakupwny also has a discussion of the topic in their open forum. I’m a bit perplexed that some of the other popular blogs in town aren’t touching this story, usually they are on top of local politics.

Israel hints at full-scale Lebanon attack
AP - 22 minutes ago
BEIRUT, Lebanon - Israeli troops met fierce resistance from Hezbollah guerrillas Thursday as they crossed into Lebanon to seek tunnels and weapons for a second straight day, and Israel hinted at a full-scale invasion. Israel warned residents to “immediately” flee a nearly 20-mile swath of south Lebanon along the border. Its warplanes also launched new airstrikes on Beirut’s southern suburbs, a Hezbollah stronghold, shortly after daybreak, followed by strikes in the guerrillas’ heartland in the south and eastern Bekaa Valley.
Joe Golombek describing Sam Hoyt - “A 12-year incumbent who has a record of simply being a member of the status quo — Shelly Silver’s poop boy in Albany.”
That was said after Hoyt crashed Golombek’s press conference yesterday exposing Maria Whyte’s unethical, if not illegal, politicking. Whyte is running for Democratic Committeewoman in 10 different districts. Hoyt showed up to defend Maria Whyte. Whyte’s weak defense is that she is just acting as a “placeholder” until her party can find enough people to run for the positions.
Here’s a legal opinion from attorney James Ostrowski -
Peter Reese and I, with nearly fifty combined years of legal experience and a fair amount of election law background between us, read about fifteen appellate decisions that call running for multiple offices a fraud upon the enrolled voters.
In 1974, the Court of Appeals of New York, in a matter indistinguishable from the present matter stated:
“Since this multiplicity of inconsistent candidacies has been properly recognized as injurious to the rights of the electorate, and described as fraudulent and deceptive, and because here the multiplicity of inconsistent candidacies for the County Committee was intentional, the dissenters at the Appellate Division were correct in concluding that respondents’ designating petitions should fail entirely.
Sunday, the consistently divided parliament in Iraq unanimously voted for a resolution condemning Israel’s aggression against Lebanon. Bush can’t even install a puppet government that supports him, let alone win a “war” against terror. Read the rest of a great article here.
