Iraq’s insurgents, Osama Bin Laden, the recently deceased Zarqawi . . .this is the list our government has convinced many people to regard as our enemies. The government is wrong, our enemy is here killing us more everyday. The enemy is government itself. There is no shame as they reach into our pockets at an ever increasing rate. The most recent example is our State Legislators passing a bill which will cost taxpayers more than $1 billion dollars. The reason? To further enrich the unions and to buy votes for the upcoming November elections. The 500 pound bomb should have been dropped on Albany instead of Zarqawi. That would have helped to free the taxpayers held hostage here at home.
The election-bound state legislators unleashed more than $1 billion worth of benefits to unions, which provide the most reliable source of cash and field-operation assistance during political campaigns.
In addition, the unions were handed broad, new powers to use in contract talks with local governments and school districts across the state. These advantages will end up costing local taxpayers for years to come, the school and government experts say.
“It really is a breathtaking list of union giveaways, with zero action to reduce taxpayer costs,” Robert Ward of the Business Council of New York said of the more than 100 union-backed bills that passed both the Senate and Assembly. Buffalo News article here.
In typical fashion, Eliot Spitzer declined to comment or state his position on anything that could be construed as pro taxpayer and anti-union.
Spitzer, endorsed by the AFL-CIO last week, declined to say whether he would veto any of the more than 100 measures if he were governor. Pressed on the issue, the only bill he criticized was one to permit more than 50,000 day care workers at private agencies to join state worker unions.

Before I get into the music, I want to comment on Gateway Park. This is a great location for a concert. The acoustics are wonderful, you can be part of the crowd on the North Tonawanda side or you can relax, bring a chair and sit on the Tonawanda side of the Erie Canal and still here the music very clearly. The following photo will give you an idea of the crowd size for this concert.

Robin Trower and his band put on one helluva show. He proved that he still ranks up there with the guitar greats. Robin’s infusion of blues with rock creates his own unique sound. He’s getting up in years but 30 years vanished the minute he started playing his stratocaster.

It rained off and on for about an hour during Robin Trower’s set, but it was not enough to dampen the spirit of the crowd that came to see one of the British Guitar Greats. This was not just another 70’s rock icon playing for a paycheck. There was a real gleam in his eyes while he played and he obviously really enjoys playing the guitar. The band played a mixture of new and old favorites.

The band onstage before Robin Trower was the Dave Costantino Band. Dave’s band had a very tight sound that really got the crowd into the concert. He used to be the lead guitarist for Talas, one of the most popular local bands ever in Buffalo. If you want to hear some good, live rock, Dave performs every Wednesday night at Caputi’s Sheridan Pub. Here’s a small slideshow of the Dave Costantino Band.

I went to the Robin Trower concert tonight at Gateway Park along the Erie Canal. Here’s a shot of the park. I’ll be posting more about the concert tomorrow.
