Buffalo Pride Parade 2006

The clouds parted and the sun came out just in time to shine on Buffalo’s Gay Pride Parade on Sunday. Thousand of people lined Elmwood Avenue waiting for this annual colorful event. People of all ages, races and orientations watched and participated.

This year the parade takes on a special importance as the U.S. Senate once again politicizes the issue of gay marriage in an attempt to gain votes. It is with utmost contempt that I write about our representatives attempting to write a discriminatory amendment to the United States Constitution.

The parade is the symbol of reality, showing people through diversity that there is no threat to society from the gay population. Equality belongs to all people. It was a joyous occasion to see so many groups represented, including churches.

Back to the fun filled day. Many people made this a day of celebration for the whole family.

Even the pets were getting in on the act.

Below is a slideshow of the parade and some of the festivities.

If you would like to read more about the issue of gay marriage, follow this link to an essay I wrote a couple of years ago. You’ll have to pardon a couple of grammatical errors in it, my proofreading was a bit lax.
