A press release was issued on April 20 announcing a $3.9 million face lift to restore and preserve the beauty of city hall. It will be interesting to compare before and after pictures of the project.
“Buffalo City Hall is such an amazing building, with its sandstone exterior and multi-colored terra cotta ornamental tiles,” said Mayor Brown. “The building needs to undergo this facelift, so that future generations can appreciate this building for years to come.”
All elevations of Buffalo City Hall are exposed to the weather, including the prevailing winds from Lake Erie to the west. This exposure has caused areas of loose or unsecured stone and terra cotta on the exterior masonry.
Buffalo’s city hall is an art deco masterpiece. Click on the picture for a larger view and you will better be able to see the scaffolding for the face lift.

Pataki wants uptick in ethanol sales, usage - Business First of Buffalo:
The governor is proposing legislation which would exempt renewable fuels from provisions of exclusivity contracts between fuel providers and retail service stations.
These contracts allow service stations to sell only specific brands of fuel and they do not include alternative fuels. The stations, according to the governor, are restricted from selling E85 ethanol and other fuels that are not provided by their distributor.
I don’t think the Governor should be trying to enact legislation which interferes with private enterprise. The governmnet has an abysmal track record when doing so.
Service stations are under no legal obligation to enter into a contract with a petroleum distributor. By doing so, they agree to the benefits of the contract. This would include branding, credit card services, advertising and other benefits. Service station owner wishing to forgo these items are free to buy off the spot market and market their product themselves.
Contracts consist of 4 basic elements: an agreement (offer & acceptance); consideration (bargained for exchange of value); contractual capacity of the contracting parties; and legality (of the contract).
There is no reason to restrict this process. If E85 (ethanol blend) is a worthwhile product there will be people selling it. The major distributors will jump on the bandwagon naturally through the free-market competitive process.
Pataki’s proposed legislation is just another example of political posturing with an emotional issue. No good will come of it.

I just received the 1000th issue of RollingStone magazine in the mail this week. I just thought I would share this milestone with you because the cover is a really cool 3-D picture. The magazine is great, filled with interesting articles as usual. This issue is worth the money for the cover alone. Click the pic for a larger view.
Four games, all decided by one goal. No leads by either team greater than one goal. Two of the games going to OT and resulting in Buffalo victories. Breakaways, 2 on 1’s and fantastic saves by the goalies. You couldn’t ask for more in the way of entertaining and exciting hockey. This series between the Buffalo Sabres and the Ottawa Senators has, in my opinion, been some of the most exciting hockey to watch in a long time.
Speaking of entertaining, the Buffalo Beast attempts a hilarious prank involving our Mayor, Byron Brown, and the Mayor of Ottawa, Bob Chiarelli. Kudos to Kevin at BFLO BLOG for pointing out this great piece of journalism at its finest.
