Buffalo News - THE FIRST 100 DAYS
And four words describing his administration ring loudly: control, caution, discipline, protocol.
To me, those 4 words really mean Byron has done nothing. The News article was much to kind. The article equated inaction to future action. BB had the perfect opportunity to let the PBA, and its myopic leader, know that they do not run the city. What did BB do? He said he would try to end the wage freeze. We need a mayor who stands up to unwarranted union pressure, not one who caves in.
Quality of life issues were discussed in the article. One of the major problems is the lack of focus by the BPD on property crimes. If a property crime occurs outside the banking hours of police detectives, getting a real investigation is virtually impossible. BB wants to spend millions on citistat when there are common sense solutions he can implement now without spending money. The first thing I would do is shift a significant portion of the BPD off the 9 - 5 shift and reassign them to time slots when the majority of crime actually occurs.
Byron’s only accomplishment during his first 100 days is reinforcing the fact that the unions have too much power.
Added April 12 - As a follow-up you should read Judy Einach’s view of Byron’s first 100 days here. Apparently she has subsequently been banned from City Hall for expressing her opinion.
