Buffalo News - To catch a thief (or not)
But regardless of what they take, chances are you won’t get it back.
That is a very telling quote from the article. I have a first experience with a $300 piece of electronic equipment being stolen. The list of possible perps was finite, small and identified. It took me 3 days of persistence to actually speak to a Buffalo Police Detective. A detective claimed she tried to call me but couldn’t reach me. I had left them my cell phone number. During that period I had one missed call and no voicemails from the Police Department. If their effort to “reach” me is indicative of their crime solving skills, it is no wonder that only 14% of burglaries in the City of Buffalo result in an arrest. To my knowledge, the detective had one phone conversation relating to my case and filed it under “unsolved”.
The News article correctly identified this as a “quality of life” issue which affects many people.
