First Baptist Church
Pastor Robert Quick of the First Baptist Church in North Tonawanda was on Channel 7 news tonight. It seems the Pastor, in his zeal to post the scripture on his Church’s announcement board, plastered anti-gay “biblical” teaching for all to see. His reasoning? “It’s in the Bible. “If this ignorant, bigotted person wants to play the “it’s in the bible” game he should post the following statements on his announcement board:
- The Bible also says it is “disgraceful” for a woman to speak out in church (1 Corinthians 14:34-36) and that if she has any questions, she should wait till she gets home and ask her husband.
- The Bible says the penalty for going to work on Sunday (Exodus 35:1-3) is death.
- The Bible says the man who rapes a virgin should buy her from her father (Deuteronomy 22:28-29) and marry her.
What the news story failed to mention is that there is a public school very close to his Church. I did a google search and found the Church’s website (link above) and Pastor Robert Quick’s email address. I wrote him a letter and encourage others to do the same.

Buffalo News - Gay student hits snag over date to Villa prom
After reading the story it seems to me that Villa Maria is being inconsistent with their policies. Since they allowed the lesbian couple to attend a previous semi-formal event together, it is a bit late for them to jump to the other side of the fence. At the very least the school should reimburse the couple for any expenses already incurred due to the reasonable expectation that would be able to attend the prom.
The couple attended a semi-formal dance at Villa in December without incident.
If the school deemed it ok to accept money for tuition from this student they have no right restricting access to school activities.

Money continues to flow to Hertel Avenue. More investment is evident by the facelift being given to the pictured building. Just to the left of the construction is the recently opened Chateau Buffalo. You can read a wonderful review of it in buffalo rising. Just to the right of Chateau Buffalo is Restaurant 1207. Among the offerings listed in the window is Chicken Souvlaki. From first glance it has all the charm of a neighborhood family diner. I am looking forward to reporting on the food in the near future. The variety of restaurants on Hertel has been expanding and the quality of the food, for the most part, is very good. This work is happening in the block between Fairchild Place and Traymore Street, just east of Terrapin Station. (click on the picture for a larger view)
