Fables Cafe - You have to check it out!

I am always looking for a new place to eat. I have no ethic preferences when it comes to food. My kind of restaurant is one that can’t be described as “ordinary”. Thanks to BuffaloRising, I recently tried a great place for lunch.

The place is Fables Cafe and it is located in the Central Library downtown. I was there Monday afternoon about 1:00 and the place was humming with activity. Speaking to a woman who was tending to the dining room I learned that Monday is usually their slowest day, not that it looked slow to me, and they have been open for nearly a year.

On to the food. I inquired as to the choices of the daily soup selection which that day happened to be chili, black bean soup and roasted red pepper bisque. After a few moments to decide I went with the roasted red pepper bisque. It was absolutely delicious! My only disappointment was that I ordered a cup instead of a bowl. For my main selection I ordered the Turkey w/ Warm Brie: Smoked turkey breast blanketed with melted brie and a chipotle raspberry chutney served on a freshly baked baby Baguette. $6.75. I definetly picked another winner here. The baguette was fresh, warm and had a wonderful texture. The smoked turkey breast had a very nice flavor which was complimented very well by the melted brie. As for the chipotle rasberry chutney, it added the perfect zing to the other ingredients. Just a note for you people who shy away from spicy foods, the chutney was loaded with flavor but not heat - try it. My less daring dining companion ordered the Cafe Club and was very sataisified with his choice. The sandwiches were accompanied by a nice mix of field greens topped off with an obviously fresh and homemade balsamic vinaigrette. I washed all of this down with a large cup of their freshly brewed coffee from. They brew the coffee from organically grown coffee beans from First Colony. The coffee was full-flavored and fresh. 2 varieties are offered each day.

The way the place works is you step up to a counter to order and pay for your food. You will be handed your drinks and soup/chili, if ordered, and then you seat yourself. When the food is ready, it will be brought out to you. I highly recommend this place. I can’t wait to return and try some of the other items on the menu.

This shot was taken at last year’s Allentwon Art Festival. This year the artfest will be held June 10-11. I can’t wait, it’s less than 3 months away. This may not have been the snowiest winter, but we’ve had enough cold weather, especially the month of March. Brrrrrrrrrr

City Hall side view

I took this side shot of city hall yesterday. The colors in the building design shw up nicely. I wanted to share it because most of the pictures of city hall are a front view. From here we can see that the side has every bit as much character.
